Alloy 2507 Schedule Pipe

Alloy 2507 Super Duplex Pipe

UNS S32750 / W.Nr. 1.4410 • UNS S32760 / W.Nr. 1.4501

COMMON TRADE NAMES: Super Duplex, 25 Chrome, SAF® 2507, Zeron® 100, Z-100

Super Duplex 2507 includes UNS S32750 and S32760. Compared to alloy 2205, these alloys contain higher levels of chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen, which increases their resistance to localized pitting and crevice corrosion. They are defined by having a Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number (PREN) greater than 40. In the annealed condition, these alloys have more than twice the strength of conventional austenitic stainless steels and superior corrosion resistance in many environments. Alloy 2507 is also commonly referred to as Super Duplex or 25 Chrome.

Characteristics

Corrosion graphic

Corrosion Resistance

Super Duplex 2507 has excellent resistance to chloride-induced pitting corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. It is suitable for service environments high in chlorides, such as seawater cooling, salt evaporation, and desalination. It is also suitable for mild hydrogen sulfide, dilute reducing and organic acids, and moderate to high levels of oxidizing acids.
Service Temperature

Elevated Temperature Resistance

Super Duplex 2507 may experience embrittlement if exposed to temperatures exceeding 480°F (249°C) for extended periods.
Mechanical Properties

Mechanical Properties

Super Duplex 2507 has more than twice the strength of conventional austenitic stainless steels in the annealed condition. It can also be provided in the cold-worked condition with yield strength exceeding 160 ksi. It maintains good toughness at temperatures down to -50°F (-10°C).

Heat Treatment

Super Duplex 2507 cannot be strengthened by heat treating. Annealing is performed at 1920°F - 2060°F (1049°C - 1127°C), followed by rapid cooling.
Workability

Workability

Super Duplex 2507 can be cold formed. However, it has a high work-hardening rate, so intermediate anneals may be required. Annealing is also recommended subsequent to hot forming or cold forming in order to achieve optimal stress corrosion resistance.

Applications

Super Duplex 2507 is used in environments containing high levels of chlorides or dissolved oxygen, such as seawater cooling, salt evaporation, desalination, geothermal wells, pulp and paper production, and chemical processing. CRA offers specialty alloy 2507 seamless pipe & tube for use in multiple industries and applications, including:

  • Seawater Cooling
  • Oil & Gas
  • Salt Evaporation
  • Desalination
  • Geothermal Wells
  • Pulp & Paper Production
