Martensitic Stainless Steels are used extensively in sweet (CO2) environments where carbon and low alloy steels experience general corrosion. They range in yield strength from 80 to 125 ksi, achieved by quench and temper heat treatment. 13 Chrome is the least alloyed of the stainless steels and most common for OCTG.
Super 13 Chrome and Modified 13 Chrome offer improved mechanical properties and increased resistance to the effects of CO2, H2S, chlorides, pH and temperature. Standard 13 Chrome and Super 13 Chrome are approved for slightly sour environments in accordance with NACE MR0175/ISO 15156.
UNS S42000
13 Chrome L80 is a quenched and tempered martensitic stainless steel commonly used as downhole tubular components, packers, and other subsurface equipment in sweet (CO2) and mildly sour (H2S) environments.
13CRM / HP1
The Modified 13 Chrome alloys, 13CRM & HP-1, are quenched and tempered martensitic stainless steels intended for corrosion resistance in sweet (CO2) environments. Relative to 13 Chrome, the Modified 13 Chromes provide increased strength and corrosion resistance at higher temperatures and chloride concentrations.
UNS S41426 / 13CRS / HP2
Super 13 Chromes offer improved mechanical properties and increased resistance to the effects of CO2 , H2S, chlorides, pH, and temperatures when compared with standard 13 Chrome and are intended for corrosion resistance in sweet (CO2) and mildly sour (H2S) environments.
15CR
15 Chrome, or Super 15 Chrome, is a quenched and tempered martensitic-ferritic stainless steel intended for corrosion resistance in sweet (CO2) environments with moderate chloride content, requiring high strength up to 400°F.
17CRS
17 Chrome is a quenched and tempered martensitic-ferritic stainless steel intended for corrosion resistance in sweet (CO2) environments with moderate chloride content, requiring high strength up to 400°F. The higher strength and temperature resistance, relative to Super 13 Chrome, allow it to be used in deeper wells with high-pressure and high-temperature (HPHT) conditions.
